US President Donald Trump has reiterated his offer to mediate the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan. He said this while talking to media, adding that he is willing to intervene but the decision is up to the heads of both countries.

Earlier, the US President offered to mediate between Pakistan and India on the Kashmir dispute when Prime Minister Imran Khan was on a visit to the US. He told that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him if he wanted to be a mediator or arbitrator on Kashmir.

These remarks were not received well in India, which vehemently denied the claim.

Nevertheless, President Trump has once again offered to mediate the issue between the two countries on Thursday. A reporter asked him about India’s rejection of third-party involvement. Trump said that it was totally up to PM Modi to accept the mediation offer.

“I met Prime Minister [Imran] Khan, I got along great with. I think they are fantastic people — Khan and Modi — I mean, I would imagine they could get along very well,” he added.

“But if they wanted somebody to intervene, to help them, and I spoke with Pakistan about that and I spoke frankly in India about it, that battle has been going on for a long time,” said the US President.

He maintained that if the leaders of both countries want him to, and if he can, he would intervene.

However, Indian foreign minister said he clearly told Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that any discussion of the disputed Himalayan region would be with Pakistan and only bilaterally.
