The Cricket Committee, working under the umbrella of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), will meet Head Coach Mickey Arthur on July 27 to discuss the team’s performance during his tenure.

The committee comprising of Wasim Akram, Misbahul Haq, Urooj Mumtaz will be headed by the board’s managing director Wasim Khan.

The committee will evaluate the green shirts’ performances during the last three years. The decision to extend his contract will then be taken, based on the evaluation report.

While Arthur has expressed the desire to continue working with the Pakistan team for another three years, the board has not agreed to it so far.

PCB intends to give him another year – until the WT20 next year – before deciding his future, sources privy to the matter said.

However, any decision on Arthur’s future with the national team will solely rely on the July 27th meeting. It remains to be seen if the head coach succeeds to convince the committee that he has more to offer.

During the meeting, Arthur will also present his report on the team’s performance during his tenure and also during the world cup 2019 which Pakistan finished on the fifth spot.

Following the meeting, the committee will table its report before chairman PCB Ehsan Mani who will make the final decision on Arthur’s future.

A Glimpse of Arthur’s Stint with Pakistan

Mickey Arthur was appointed as head coach in 2016 following the resignation of Waqar Younis after a dismal performance in the WT20. During his tenure, the performance of Pakistan Cricket Team was inconsistent as they topped the T20 ladder but failed miserably in ODIs and Tests.

In his three years, Arthur does not have much to show beside the Champions Trophy.

He was tasked to raise Pakistan’s game according to the modern standards. But, his experiments with the bowling lineups cost the team the Test series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in UAE – once known as Pakistan’s forte.

Since 2016, Pakistan has only won 7 out 28 matches against top ODI teams including South Africa, New Zealand, England, and Australia. Most of Pakistan’s wins came against the low-ranked sides such as Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

In the meantime, the green shirts lost Test series to Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
