Sri Lankan mystery spinner, Akila Dananjaya, has been banned from bowling after his action was found illegal by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The decision was taken after an independent assessment of his bowling action.

The 25-year-old’s action was reported earlier this year in New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka, following which he underwent an assessment of his action at Chennai on 29th August.

The spinner, who opted out of Pakistan tour along with 9 other key players due to security concerns, will be able to get his action checked after a period of 12 months.

According to the ICC regulations, if a player is reported twice within a period of 2 years, he or she has to wait for 12 months after suspension to get his or her action tested again.

Dananjaya was first suspended from bowling in December 2018, however, he corrected his action and was allowed to bowl in February 2019.
