The US-based biotechnology company Moderna has decided to charge governments between $25 and $37 per dose for its coronavirus vaccine, depending on the amount ordered.
According to Moderna’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Stephane Bancel, their vaccine will cost the same as the flu vaccine which is between $10 and $50.

Last week, Moderna revealed that its vaccine offers 94.5 percent protection against the viral infection that has caused the deaths of over 1.3 million people worldwide.
The European Commission, which is the executive branch of the European Union, has been in talks with Moderna since July to secure a supply of millions of doses of its coronavirus vaccine for less than $25 per dose.

In a recent meeting chaired by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved the provision of a technical supplementary grant of $150 million for the purchase of the coronavirus vaccine.
The vaccine will be delivered to frontline healthcare workers and the elderly on priority. Overall, around 10 million people will be provided a vaccine cover under the aforementioned arrangement.
