The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown the world into turmoil, claiming lives, crushing livelihoods, and wreaking economic havoc.

Although life is slowly returning to normalcy in Pakistan despite the outbreak’s rise, it still remains disrupted, forcing many people to stay at home. The fear of the virus looms and stepping out of the safety of home, especially into crowded spaces, carries a big risk.

The situation has significantly altered how we celebrate major holidays and religious festivals. We experienced a different Eid-ul-Fitr two months ago and the need for social distancing is set to make our Qurbani on Eid-ul-Azha considerably different too.

While animal markets are opening in different parts of cities across Pakistan, social distancing can hardly be observed in such places that will only draw larger crowds as the event closes in.

Amid this uncertainty and fear, technology is coming to the rescue to make your Qurbani safe, easy, and meaningful this Eid. Qurbani App – an online marketplace to buy and sell livestock for free anywhere in Pakistan – has all your Qurbani needs covered including sale and purchase of sacrificial animals, Itjimai Qurbani, Sadqa, and more.

The brainchild of Ali Chaudhry – a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the UK, along with two other co-founders, Ibrahim Bashir – a Fulbright scholar from the US, and Sibghatullah Baig – an entrepreneurship enthusiast from COMSATS,  the Qurbani App aims to transform the foundations of Pakistan’s agro-based economy through technology, starting from livestock.

“Pakistan has about 100 million livestock, eighth-largest cattle inventory, fourth largest milk production, and a large pool of extremely talented farmers,” says Ali Chaudhry. “The agriculture sector covers about 21% of Pakistan’s GDP and employs about 42.3% of the labor force. These numbers present an exciting opportunity for the technological disruption which the Qurbani App is built to do.”

The app facilitates users in their hunt for the best packages for healthy, beautiful, and affordable animals to sacrifice. It allows buyers to browse tens of thousands of animals with their price, weight, breed, description, and location. Sellers can upload their animals for sale within seconds and target the entire country as their market.

The Qurbani App also caters to the huge segment of the population that relies on Ijtamai Qurbani services from different vendors.

“Usually, people place the orders through local welfare organizations and then wait for the meat to be either delivered home or distributed among the poor, with no updates regarding when and how the animal was slaughtered or meat distributed,” shares Sibghatullah Baig, one of the app’s co-founders.

“According to our research, this is the first time an Ijtami Qurbani vendor is providing real-time updates to its users in the form of notifications, pictures, and videos. This is an extension of our Sadqa service where users who place an order for a goat get hourly updates on their Sadqa’s progress. We are implementing a similar feature for processing Ijtamai Qurbani orders this Eid season,” shares Ibrahim Bashir, a co-founder of the app.

The increasing number of online sales and diversity of the famous Pakistani livestock breeds brought the idea of the Qurbani App to life. Besides facilitating people in their Qurbani needs, the platform aims to bring the livestock community together and generate more value for all the stakeholders involved.

With nearly all Qurbani related services covered, Qurbani App could be a go-to-place for many users this Eid. The app has already been on the Top 5 trending apps on Google Play worldwide and is expecting millions of visits on its web and mobile platforms this season.
